DIY: All Chalked Up

October 22, 2012

I bought this amazing wooden frame at Goodwill awhile back. The original painting was a sort of dreary landscape piece but the canvas was in good condition and the whole thing cost under $2.00. Sa-weeeet. I had some chalk paint on hand and covered the canvas with two coats before getting down to business with some chalk typography.

I love love love Dana Tanamachi‘s chalk lettering and used some of her work for inspiration.

The quote is one of my favorite lines from a song called Hey Leigh by the Thieving Birds. This whole project ran me under $5 and that’s including all the stuff I already had on hand. It took two days because I wanted a full 24 hours for the paint to dry, so it turned into a perfect little weekend project. Sweet. I’m excited to find new quotes and inspiration to throw up there and to improve my lettering a bit (the canvas was a little uneven since I just painted right over the bumpy acrylic art. Next time, I’ll opt for something a little smoother).
