Remembering Today

September 12, 2012

I was editing our school’s year book. It was 2nd period.

An announcement over the loud speaker told us something terrible had happened.

We huddled into the classroom across the hall; mouths gaping, eyes glued to the TV. Watching but not believing.
How could this happen?

I had to physically remove my mom from the screen when I arrived home from school. We were numb.
What does this mean for the security of our country?

Later, my high school acapella choir took a trip to New York. We held an impromptu concert at Ground Zero. It gives me goosebumps to think about it even now.

Prayer of the Children was one of the songs we sang at Ground Zero following 9/11. I don’t have footage from that day, but I really love the all-men version sung by CMU Originals.

I think about how strong we are as a nation, how connected we are as a community, and about the men and women who give their lives to ensure something like this never happens again.

I’ll never forget.
