Bubbles on Labor Day Weekend

September 3, 2012

I spent the weekend in Keller, TX with my parents, grandma, grandpa, and younger cousins. It’s usually a fairly hectic visit but we always find time to do a little something fun/crazy. Christmas time is usually when we pull all the stops–My mom comes up with clever ideas for our family photos which usually involve some sort of ridiculous costume. This time, we made giant bubbles. I used to make these when I was a counselor at the Science Center and they turned out just exactly how I remembered them.

My 9 year old cousin was a pro at the whole making giant bubbles thing. Love how this one turned out looking sort of hour-glass like.

This was my favorite! It was a little windy so we got some really funky shapes with the bubbles. Lil’ cousin is making her own bubbles inside the big bubble.

I had my middle cousin convinced we were using the kiddie pool to recreate the olympic diving events. Once he figured out we weren’t really going to be jumping from the roof, he rinsed off and went inside.

If you’d like to make your own giant bubbles, this is the recipe we used:

2 c. Light Corn Syrup
4 c. Liquid Dish Soap
12 c. Water

We ended up diluting this solution quite a bit because the pool was on the larger side. The bubbles actually worked better after we added more water. We filled half a bucket with water and added gradually until we were able to fill the bottom of the pool.

Pup enjoyed all the bubble fun, too.

Happy Labor Day! Hope everyone worked as hard as we did! : )
