Trailer Food Tuesdays

August 29, 2012

Ah, food trailers;  the tiny kitchens on wheels that pump out delicious grub and personality as unique as the food they’re serving. I love it. And when a bunch of trailers get together to celebrate summer in Austin, it’s a pretty magical thing. Welcome to Trailer Food Tuesdays at Long Center. Tonight’s set up included around 10 trailers–Mike and I originally had our mind set on trying something from each one, but filled up after just three rounds. Oh well, there’s always next month!

(There are the trailers I’ll be trying out next time: Lucky J’s Chicken and WafflesBahn BahnKebabaliciousDock and Roll Diner
The Seedling Truck, and Little Fattys)

{ONE} We started the night right with Love Balls. What can I say? Their balls are delicious (try saying that out loud with a straight face. Can’t. Do. It.) The classic Takoyaki (that’s octopus, y’all) is one of the best things I’ve had out of a food truck in a long time. In fact, once we made our first round we were tempted to come back for round two. I highly recommend this one.

{TWO}  Next we decided to get our taco on with Chi’Lantro and The Peached Tortilla (though Chi’Lantro’s kimchi fries were mighty tempting). From Chi’Lantro, we snagged two bugolgi tacos and from The Peached Tortilla we tried chicken pad thai tacos and bahn mi tacos. Hands down, the Bahn Mi won this round. It’s sweet and sour flavor was so different than the other two. Sadly, we scarfed it down so fast, the only close up it had was in our belly (ha-ha).

{THREE} The hickory laced smoke puffing out the top of the Woodpile BBQ truck served to be some sort of a bat signal for us–so this was a pretty obvious choice to wrap up our night. Would you take a look at that meat and cornbread?? Not to mention the pile of pickles and cup of BBQ sauce (which was poured from an IGLOO thermos. Yes, a THERMOS of BBQ sauce. Seriously.) Truth be told, the cheesy sausage was almost too much, just a little close to pushing the edge but I really think the pickles saved the whole thing (cheese lovers, don’t worry. I’m still in the fan club. I think I just filled up a bit too much to end it all with dairy. Oops).

Now that’s it’s 11pm and I’ve had plenty of time to digest all that goodness….I’m thinking I could go for some kimchi fries after all.

(Special thanks to Mike for putting up with my rediculous food-picture taking. Sorry I’m totally that girl!)
