Feeling Saucy

July 15, 2012
Recipe posts have been my favorite lately…I know I’ve been posting a lot! That’s because we’re trying to do more meals at home (only semi-successfully–but at least we’re trying!) and I’ve been really enjoying getting my cook on in the kitchen. There’s something very zen about it–I love reading through different recipes and coming up with something really delicious. Plus having tangy homemade sauces on hand is never a bad thing. Here are two types of BBQ sauces that are SO. GOOD.
Know what else has been my favorite lately? Vintage labels for all my home-made goods. Check out a few here, here, and here.
Sauce Number 1:
  • 1 1/2 cups ketchup
  • 3 tbsp brown sugar
  • 2 tbsp soy sauce
  • 1 tbsp apple cider vinegar
  • 1 tbsp red pepper flakes
  • 1/2 tsp garlic powder
  • salt and pepper to taste

Sauce Number 2:
This one was adapted from Simply Scratch.

  • 1 1/2 Cups Brown Sugar
  • 1 1/4 cups ketchup
  • 1/4 cup red wine vinegar
  • 1/4 cup white wine vinegar
  • 1 tbsp worcestershire sauce
  • 1 tps liquid from jarred jalapenos
  • 2 tsp paprika
  • salt + pepper to taste (I like about 1 tsp of each)

Preparation:
Measure and add all ingredients to a large bowl and whisk well until the sugar has dissolved and the spices are thoroughly distributed. Serve immediately or cover and store in fridge or freeze.
