DIY :: Magazine Envelopes

July 15, 2012

Making envelopes from magazines was one of my favorite crafts as a kid… right up there with friendship bracelets and bedazling (don’t judge). So today when I came across a stack of magazines I knew exactly what I needed to do with them. I feel like I just rediscovered an old favorite song (the one that you used to play over and over and over again and then promptly forgot about for about 6 years. Cue the nostalgia!) Heads up on the addicting nature of this one.

What you need:

– Envelope (Pick any size you like–just make sure it fits within a single page of your selected magazine. Bonus recycling points if you use one that was sent to you!)
– Magazines
– Scissors
– Letter opener/knife
– Glue stick

1. Carefully open sides of envelope with letter opener/knife so you can use it as a template.
2. Select a page from your magazine and trace the envelope.
3. Carefully tear the page out of the magazine and cut out your outlined envelope.
4. Use your envelope template as a guide for how to fold your newly cut out envelope.
5. Use a small amount of glue to secure the sides of your new envelope.
6. Fancy ’em up with some printable labels (how awesome are these vintage ones??)

If you’re looking for more magazine craftiness, head over to How About Orange and learn how to make origami bows!
