I Do Declare: A Very Louisiana Weekend

July 2, 2012

Before this weekend, I’ve never spent any time in Louisiana. I, in an absurdly over-stereotyped mode, imagined it as a land of parasols, women fanning themselves absently while rocking on the front porch, and conversation full of statements like “I do declare” and “Much obliged.”  And while my friend Kate and I worked on perfecting our southern accents (Thank yoooou, Andy ), I didn’t see a single parasol-toting or porch-sitting individual. I did get to spend a fun-filled weekend with my friends Kate and Brent eating yummy food, watching movies, exploring the city, and catching up.  Here’s my trip in pictures:

1. Are they not a totally gorgeous couple? 2. Pretending to do glamour shots on the river. It was windy. And hot. I think we pulled it off pretty well.

3. On the way out, I ran into A LOT of traffic-stopping construction. I snapped this while in a standstill on the highway. My only saving grace was the 90s music marathon blasting from my radio. SCORE!! 4. Mmmm. Still stopped in traffic. 5. After a seven and a half hour car ride, Kate and I met up with her work friends for some Zumba madness. We were literally dripping with sweat in this picture. It was SO. MUCH. FUN. 6. Absolute dinner perfection. 7. Refrigerator magnets are fun. Flan is not. 8. More proof that we are super nerds.

PS: In a sad turn of events, Mike wasn’t able to join us in Louisiana which is why he’s not in any of these photos. He was there in spirit though because we all missed him teeeerrrribly.
