good morning!

January 3, 2012

I have this incredible hit-my-snooze-button-eight-times ability to sleep in and my new schedule completely enables this awful habit. But then there are some mornings that 6:00 rolls in and I’m wide eyed, staring at my ceiling with all sorts of crazy thoughts running through my head (when I was little and had a popcorn ceiling, I’d play connect the dots. Deep, I know.). *This* was one of those mornings. I’m thinking about happiness. Basic happiness: I went to bed last night with the news that M and I would get to spend my birthday together in Austin (Yaaay!). And a more deeper-purpose happiness like making a positive impact and putting your mark on the world.

I know it’s been super trendy to “go green” these days, leave a lighter footprint, participate in No Meat Mondays (who isn’t a sucker for alliteration?). I’ve made some small steps in the last few years to really cut back on my paper use by using cloth napkins and kitchen towels. Fish is the only meat I keep in the freezer and even then it’s pretty occasional. (I went on a crazy  let’s-visit-the-slaughter-house-to-find-out-where-your-food-really-comes-from documentary binge back two years ago and have never been the same).  I’m looking for ways this year to dig a little deeper, become a little wiser, a little stronger, and a little more aware of the big picture stuff.
